Description:
A characterful vintage Lagonda wristwatch with a strong mid-century design and a beautifully aged dial. Originally acquired as a potential donor watch due to its heavily worn and neglected condition, the piece instead became a fun restoration project.
After careful work, the watch was successfully brought back to life and is now running.
The dial retains its original patina, with visible ageing, marks and tonal variation that reflect the watch’s history and give it a unique, authentic appearance. Rather than being refinished, the dial has been left as found, preserving the character that only develops naturally over many decades.
The watch features a classic two-tone dial layout, Arabic numerals and a subsidiary seconds register at six o’clock.
The original case shows honest wear and signs of its previous life, but remains in respectable condition considering how heavily the watch had been used before restoration, a new crystal has been fitted, greatly improving clarity while allowing the aged dial to remain the visual focus.
Powered by a traditional hand-wound mechanical movement, the watch is currently running well. It has been fully wound and tested against digital time for 24 hours, during which it kept time as expected. As with most vintage mechanical watches, some daily variation may occur. The movement is designed to be wound once a day.
The watch is fitted with a completely new brown leather Bund-style strap, which complements the warm tones of the dial and gives the piece a distinctive vintage military-inspired appearance, the strap is an aftermarket replacement and not original to the watch.
This is not a flawless collector’s example, but rather a genuine survivor that has been given a second life — an individual vintage watch with visible history, mechanical charm and plenty of personality.
