Description:

A truly one-of-a-kind and highly personal Certina DS Trionyx 1888, featuring a deep blue dial with a unique hand-painted maritime motif created by the original owner’s wife.

The watch was owned from new by a sea captain, and the dial artwork was designed to reflect his connection to the ocean.

The white, grey and black strokes represent wind, waves, dangerous movement and the unpredictable nature of the sea, while the rich blue background symbolizes the ocean itself. The contrasting darker and brighter elements express how the sea can be both beautiful and extremely dangerous.

The result is a truly individual watch with far more character than a standard production model. The hand-painted dial gives the piece a strong artistic identity while retaining the original Certina DS layout, gold-tone hour markers, date display and distinctive two-tone case design.

Powered by a newly installed Swiss quartz movement, the watch is running accurately and is ready to wear. The sapphire crystal is in excellent condition, clearly showcasing the unusual dial, while the case remains in very good overall condition with only light signs of age and careful use.

The watch is fitted with a completely new dark blue leather strap, chosen to complement the dial and enhance its maritime character. It is also presented in a Certina box, creating a complete and attractive presentation.

With its 200-metre water-resistance rating, sapphire crystal and robust DS construction, the watch combines practical durability with a genuinely unique story and visual identity.
Please note that the water resistance of older watches cannot be guaranteed and should not be relied upon unless the watch has been pressure tested.

This is not a standard collector’s Certina, but a one-of-a-kind maritime piece shaped by its original owner’s life at sea. It would suit a collector who values individuality, craftsmanship and personal character over untouched factory uniformity.

Whether you're a collector of unique timepieces or simply someone who feels at home on the open sea, this watch carries a character unlike any other.
